About us
With roots dating to 1929, the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) is the oldest women's health care organization in the U.S. ACNM provides research, administers and promotes continuing education programs, establishes clinical practice standards, creates liaisons with state and federal agencies and members of Congress.
The mission of ACNM is to promote the health and well-being of women and infants within their families and communities through the development and support of the profession of midwifery as practiced by certified nurse-midwives, and certified midwives. The philosophy inherent in the profession states that nurse-midwives believe every individual has the right to safe, satisfying health care with respect for human dignity and cultural variations.

CNMA Lobby Day - postponed
www.cnma.net
Please check back soon for the date of our next Lobby Day.
The CNMA is sponsoring legislation this year that will allow women direct access to CNMs. As many of you know, under the current legislation our colleagues working with HMO's have to rely on referrals from primary care providers. Women can only self refer to an OB-GYN.
The proposed legislation will allow women to access our care directly.
Join us in Sacramento as we continue our work educating the legislators regarding midwifery practice and lobby our bill. Each bill we move forward increases our visibility and our autonomy, and this bill is no exception. Our CNMA lobby team at Political Solutions plays a critical role in promoting the advancement of our practice while watching for potential threats woven within the many bills crafted and put forward.
There is a great deal done behind the scenes on our collective behalf by the CNMA board and our legislative leader Dr. BJ Snell. Please support CNMA with your annual membership and your presence at the next Lobby Day.
